Three Days, One Final Destination
From 11–13 September 2026, Budapest will host the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship at the modern National Athletics Centre. This elite gathering brings the world’s best athletes together to battle over 28 championship events in a three‑day format—no preliminary rounds, just high‑stakes competition.
Venue & City Highlights
The National Athletics Centre sits on the eastern bank of the Danube River, in southern Budapest. Easily accessible by public transport and surrounded by the city’s vibrant cultural life, the venue was originally built for the 2023 World Athletics Championships and offers state‑of‑the‑art facilities. Budapest itself, as Hungary’s capital, blends historic architecture, modern infrastructure and an energetic atmosphere around the competition.
Format & Key Features
The event will include 28 events (26 individual + 2 relays) featuring track and field disciplines such as 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 5000 m, hurdles, jumps and throws.
Sessions are compact: three evenings, each under three hours, packed with semi‑finals and finals.
Olympic champions, world champions and Diamond League winners will be among those competing, as the title of “Ultimate Champion” is on the line.
