1977 schaffte der italienische Musiker mit "Ti Amo" seinen endgültigen Durchbruch. Und auch noch heute - 32 Millionen verkaufter Tonträger später - geben alte und neue Fans ihm diese Liebeserklärung zurück. „Ti Amo“ brach damals in Italien alle Verkaufsrekorde – ähnlich erfolgreich 1978 der Song "Tu"; mit "Gloria" (1979) war ihm ein Platz in der italienische Musikgeschichte sicher.
